“Bar 11 needed to feel open, flexible and premium - but still handle constant use. Our job was to support that vision structurally, from the panoramic glazing to the high-load flooring, without slowing down the fit-out.”

What the brief was — and what we delivered.
The refurbishment of Bar 11 at Newcastle Airport transformed a long-standing passenger venue into a contemporary, high-capacity hospitality space within a live terminal.
Brief
The 12-week renovation introduced timber panelling, regional mural work, panoramic runway views and seating for up to 330 passengers. The structural design had to support the new interior while preserving flow, comfort and durability.
MJC's role
- Structural support for floor-to-ceiling runway glazing.
- Review of high-load flooring and fixed furniture zones.
- Coordination with designers and contractors during the fit-out.
- Engineering input to keep the passenger environment open, robust and buildable.
Outcome
The completed bar gives Newcastle Airport a distinctive pre-flight hospitality space, with the structure quietly supporting heavy use, passenger flow and the design intent.
The work, on site.
